Bill Gates Agrees to Testify Before House Oversight Committee in Epstein Probe
Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist Bill Gates has agreed to appear before the House Oversight Committee for a closed-door transcribed interview on 10 June 2026, as part of the panel’s ongoing investigation into the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. A spokesperson for Gates confirmed the appearance, stating that he welcomes the opportunity to speak with the committee.
The decision by Gates to cooperate with investigators contrasts with Attorney General Pam Bondi, whose scheduled testimony before the same committee was postponed at around the same time.
Gates’ Connection to Epstein
Bill Gates has been a peripheral figure in the Epstein investigation for several years. The New York Times previously reported that Gates met with Epstein on a number of occasions in 2011 — after Epstein had already been convicted of sex offences in Florida in 2008. Gates has since acknowledged the meetings and publicly described them as a mistake. His name appears in Justice Department documents related to the broader Epstein investigation, though appearing in such documents is not an indication of criminal wrongdoing.
The Broader Congressional Investigation
The House Oversight Committee’s investigation into Epstein is part of a wider effort to understand the full extent of the disgraced financier’s network and how he was able to maintain connections with prominent individuals in business, politics, and technology despite his criminal history. Gates joins a list of prominent figures who have been called to account for their associations with Epstein. Howard Lutnick is also scheduled to testify before the committee in coming weeks.
What June 10 Could Reveal
Transcribed interviews before congressional committees are typically closed to the public, but transcripts can subsequently be released. Given the level of public interest in the Epstein investigation, there will be considerable pressure on the committee to make its findings public in some form. Whether Gates’ testimony produces revelations beyond what is already publicly known remains to be seen.
Why the Epstein Investigation Continues to Matter
Years after Jeffrey Epstein’s death in federal custody in 2019, the investigation into his network and associates continues to generate significant public and political interest. The core question — how was Epstein able to maintain connections with so many prominent people after his 2008 conviction, and what did those people know about his activities — has never been fully answered. Congressional investigators argue that transparency on these relationships is essential, both as a matter of accountability and to understand how individuals of Epstein’s type exploit social networks built on power and prestige.
